PURGING DISORDER TREATMENT
Purging disorder is an eating disorder where individuals commonly purge in an attempt to prevent weight gain. Individuals suffering from purging disorder often abuse laxatives, enemas, diuretics, diet pills, and other substances and need help. ABUSE, TRAUMA & EATING DISORDERS
The staff of Rader Programs was the first to document the significant occurrence of both sexual and physical abuse among eating disordered individuals. That's why Rader's anorexia, overeating, or bulimia program address the effects of abuse and trauma in a supportive and empathic environment.
IPECAC ABUSE
Ipecac syrup is a plant extract from the ipecacuanha scrub bush found in Brazil. When ingested, Ipecac syrup stimulates the central nervous system and the stomach, causing the person to vomit. Ipecac’s sole purpose is to facilitate vomiting in an individual who has ingested poison or overdosed on medication.
BULIMIA TREATMENT
Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder where the main characteristics are binge eating and compensatory behaviors in order to prevent weight gain. These individuals are under the misconception that by using laxatives they can get rid of unwanted calories. Since most of the calories eaten are absorbed by the small intestine right after eating, the method of using laxatives for weight loss is actually ineffective
